The largest organism in the world has just been discovered under the paving slabs of Westleigh. It’s orange. It’s fungal. And it’s growing at an extraordinary rate. It’s a strange never seen before type of Amarillia Mella – or Honey Fungus. The townsfolk give it the nickname, ‘Honey’ and everyone enjoys being on the news for a short time. But as it creeps into people’s homes and lives, it starts to communicate. And suddenly Honey starts speaking, offering a simple question: ‘enter into symbiosis and I’ll give you what you want’. But what does Honey Fungus want in exchange?
Honey Fungus show is about all things that creep towards us. Creeping death. Creeping Authoritarianism. Creeping AI. Creeping technology. Creeping climate change. Honey Fungus is an absurd allegory in this age of angst, when something offers you everything you want. This show will be a largely non-verbal physical piece, and w,e the company, will be developing our non-verbal storytelling through this process.
Honey Fungus R&D has been at The Point, Eastleigh, Bear Face Theatre, Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival and Brighton People’s Theatre.
‘The most cuttingly perceptive show you are likely to see this Fringe’ Brighton Source
During the Honey Fungus process we have developed a fully open R&D process, running co-creation workshops with communities in Eastleigh and Brighton to bring people into our making process and giving them the chance to play, and contribute to the project.
